BUCHAREST, Oct. 5 (Xinhua) -- The Central Election Commission (CEC) of Moldova on Sunday approved the final results of the September 28 parliamentary elections.

According to the CEC in a release, the ruling Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS) won 55 seats, followed by the Patriotic Electoral Bloc with 26, the Alternative Bloc with eight, Our Party with six, and the Democracy at Home Party also with six.

With a simple majority, PAS will retain control of parliament and is expected to form the next government, while the Patriotic Electoral Bloc becomes the main opposition force.

Voter turnout reached 52.24 percent, surpassing the legal threshold for the elections to be deemed valid, CEC said.

The CEC will submit its final report to the Constitutional Court, which will verify the legality of the elections and confirm the new deputies. ■
