MOSCOW, Aug. 21 (Xinhua) -- Train services were suspended on Thursday in Russia's Voronezh Oblast after debris from downed Ukrainian drones damaged railway infrastructure, Russian Railways (RZD) said.
In a post on the social media platform Telegram, RZD said drone fragments fell near Zhuravka and Raynovskaya stations along the Rossosh-Sokhranovka line, cutting power to the overhead contact system. While no casualties were reported, railway traffic was brought to a standstill.
Repair works are underway to minimize delays to passenger trains, the company added.
Earlier, Voronezh Governor Aleksandr Gusev said that at least five drones had been detected and destroyed by air defense units in the southern part of the region. He confirmed that several villages were left without electricity and some passenger trains were delayed, though no injuries were reported. ■
