NEW DELHI, Oct. 11 (Xinhua) -- A paramilitary trooper belonging to India's Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) was killed and two others wounded in an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast triggered by Naxals in the eastern Indian state of Jharkhand, police said Saturday.
The attack took place on Friday evening in the Saranda Jungles of Manoharpur in Chaibasa district, about 200 km south of Ranchi, the capital city of Jharkhand.
According to a police officer, two IED blasts were carried out at the time when the CRPF contingent was out in the forest area on an anti-Naxal operation.
India's federal government has resolved to eradicate Naxalism before the 31st of March 2026, while currently, Naxals are active across the central and eastern parts of India.
India's former prime minister Manmohan Singh once termed the Naxalite movement as India's "greatest internal security challenge." ■
