LONDON, Oct. 5 (Xinhua) -- British police forces are to be granted greater powers to restrict protests, the British government said on Sunday.

The new measures will allow senior officers to consider the "cumulative impact" of previous protests, and to instruct organizers to hold events elsewhere if a venue has been subject to repeated demonstrations, according to the country's Home Office.

The new powers will be "brought forward as soon as possible," and anyone who breaches the conditions will risk arrest and prosecution, the government said.

The move came amid the recent pro-Palestinian demonstrations following a deadly attack outside a synagogue in Manchester on Thursday. The incident saw three people killed, including the offender, and has been declared by the British police as a terrorist attack.

On Saturday, around 1,000 gathered in central London for an event supporting Palestine Action, an organization proscribed by the British government as a terrorist group. The Metropolitan Police said almost 500 people had been arrested. ■
