KABUL, Oct. 5 (Xinhua) -- Three children lost their lives when the roof of a mud house collapsed due to heavy rainfall in eastern Afghanistan's Khost province on Sunday, a local official reported.
The incident occurred in the Kamalkhail region of Shamal district, triggered by intense downpours, according to Mustaghfir Gurbaz, the provincial government spokesman, who spoke to Xinhua.
Gurbaz said heavy rain and hail, accompanied by a storm, also inflicted substantial financial losses on farmers in the province, where the majority of the population depends on agriculture for their livelihoods.
The Afghanistan meteorological department has forecasted continued rainfall across 16 of the country's 34 provinces in the coming days, issuing warnings for potential flooding in several parts of the war-ravaged country, including Khost.
Residential houses in the country's remote areas are predominantly built from mud, which frequently leads to collapses during adverse weather, resulting in severe human casualties and significant property damage. ■
