HANGZHOU, July 6 (Xinhua) -- East China's Zhejiang Province activated an emergency response for Typhoon Danas, the fourth typhoon of this year, on Sunday morning.
According to the province's meteorological observatory, the typhoon is expected to move northeast at 10 to 15 km per hour, cross the Taiwan Strait from south to north from Sunday afternoon to Monday morning and may either brush past or make landfall along the island's western coast.
On Monday, the typhoon will enter the East China Sea and is most likely to make landfall between Tuesday afternoon and night along coastal areas from central and southern Zhejiang to northern Fujian.
Zhejiang has urged all coastal regions and departments to closely monitor the typhoon's path, strengthen joint consultations, and implement prevention measures in line with the contingency plan. These include sheltering ships, anchoring fishing vessels, suspending sea routes, halting construction projects, and closing marine tourist attractions.
China's national observatory also renewed a yellow alert for Typhoon Danas on Sunday as it is expected to bring strong winds and heavy rain to the southern parts of the country.
China has a four-tier, color-coded weather warning system for typhoons, with red representing the most severe warning, followed by orange, yellow and blue. ■
